Some Background to the Project
Over the last 6 months 20 local residents in the Dolphin's Barn/Rialto area of Dublin city have been involved in sourcing and imagining a new local community food garden. Seoidin O'Sullivan, a Community Artist in residence in Studio468, St Andrews Community Center, Rialto, invited the Canal Community Gardeners, a voluntary organisation to make use of her studio to discuss the potential for a legitimate community garden for the local area. ST Salvage kindly donated a temporary site for the project which is on the corner of South Circular Rd and Place Avenue, Dolphins Barn, D8. The Canal Community Gardeners are interested in sourcing and campaigning for allotments and green spaces within inner city Dublin. It is hoped that this garden will be a prototype for other community gardens in and around inner city Dublin. Community Gardens are places where people are able to grow food together, they provide a social space where neighbours are able to meet and plant and share in a collective activity.

Hi Ana
This is a community garden, it is different to allotments. We grow our food and compost collectively, so there are no individual plots available. One of the main functions of the garden is that it is a community space where people can meet there neighbours and learn to grow their own food. In the future we hope to have a bigger plot in the area to accommodate allotments too. Thanks for getting in touch pop along any Saturday if you would like to get involved, from 1pm.
